Village of Avon WWTP

Over the years, MRB Group has designed improvements and administered construction for a number of projects at the Village sewage treatment plant. Upgrades and improvements to various components of the facility have been done. Representative projects that have been completed over the past several years include:

• Trickling filter improvements including a cover (shown).
• Anaerobic digester improvements including a pump system.
• Clarifier rehabilitation.
• Pump replacements and improvements.
• Digester cleaning, sludge dewatering, and disposal for 60’ tanks.

One especially innovative use of technology that was implemented on this project was the use of reed beds. By planting phragmite reed beds in the existing sludge drying beds (shown), the drying process was improved and the sludge hauling costs were significantly minimized. Overall, this resulted in a minimal capital expense to the Village.

These improvements have all been reviewed and approved by the New York State DEC.
